Today we learn about preposition and pronoun.


what is pronoun??
A pronoun is a word that takes the place and to refer something BUT do not name it.


personal pronoun
The most frequently used pronouns are called personal pronouns.  They refer to people or things.





Reflexive Pronouns

reflexive pronoun refers to a noun or another pronoun and indicates that the same person or thing is involved

example of reflexive pronoun
  • Myself
  • Yourself/Yourselves
  • Himself
  • Herself
  • Itself
  • Ourselves
  • themselves




Demonstrative Pronouns
Used to point out ideas or objects to which they refer

example:
This| That| These| Those| Such
That is Korean Movie not Japan Movie.
Those toys belong to Maryam.

Interrogative Pronouns

Used in Wh-questions or in indirect questions. They are placed in the front of the questions in Wh-questions, but in indirect questions, they are put in the middle.

Who
Whom
Whose
What
Which
Who is the youngest in this class?
To whom did you pay the jersey?
Which of the girl is yours?



Relative Pronouns
To introduce a phrase or clause. Relative pronouns include ‘who’, ‘whom’, ‘that’, ‘which’, ‘whose’ , etc
Usage
Examples of usage
1. WHO tells us about a person. It is always followed by a verb.
  The woman who stands there is Hanis.
2. WHOM is the object form of WHO. It is normally used before a noun or pronoun.
  That is the lady whom I spoke to.
3. THAT is used after definite pronouns.
e.g : all, everything, something etc
   All the things that he says are lies.
4. THAT is used after superlatives, including first and last.
Is this the first time that you’ve driven a car?
5. WHICH is used to refer to animals, things or a group of people.
 The present which I gave Leyha is     perfume.
6. WHOSE is used for people and OF  WHICH for animals and things.
 The little boy whose parents was missed cried all day.
Hadi threw away the magazines, many of which were tattered and torn.


Indefinite Pronouns
  • To refer to a thing or person in a general way
  • All, anybody, anything, each, everyone, everybody, everything, few, many, more, most, none, no one, nobody, nothing, one, several, some, somebody ,someone ,something
    • Someone is watching you
      There is something in the bush
      Many came to see the football match
